Best Casinos for the Tiers Bet

tiers du cylindre bet

Another popular Call Bet (or Announced Bet) is the Tiers Du Cylindre.

We have illustrated this here on a French Roulette table layout.

The bet means literally “Thirds of the Wheel”. It is also called the Series 5/8 bet

As the name implies, it covers around one-third of the wheel as follows:

How to Place the Tiers du Cylindre Bet

You will be able to place the bet automatically on a decent roulette variant with Call Bets and a Racetrack betting area. The Tiers du Cylindre bet is placed on 12 numbers on the opposite side of the wheel to the Voisins du Zero bet (not to be confused with a Neighbours Bet where you can choose the pivot number).

Another bet in this family is the Orphans Bet which mops up all the numbers not covered by Tiers and Voisins.

Cover the Number 5, 8, 10, 11, 13, 16, 23, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36. All the bets are Split Bets over 2 numbers that pay out 17:1. The total bet is 6 units (we have bet 60 above with 10 unit chips). You’d get 18 units back including your bet if you won (17+1), so a pay-out of 2.8:1

Tiers Chip Distribution, Racetrack Below

This is the second biggest call bet behind Voisins du Zero and one of the more frequently played Call Bets. Your odds of winning are 32% on this bet (12/37).

Probabilities and Payout

In the “Third of the Wheel” bet, you are covering twelve numbers across six split bets: 5-8, 10-11, 13-16, 23-24, 27-30 and 33-36. It’s not exactly a third of the wheel as you also have the zero.

The house edge is 2.7%, the same as you will experience on other European Roulette bets.

Winning Bet
Say you bet a total of 6.00. So 1.00 on each split bet. If any of the above numbers drop in, you will win 17.00. Since you get your winning bet back, your net profit will be 12.00. There is a 32.4% chance of this happening (12/37).

Losing Bet
If the ball drops outside of the Tiers Zone, your loss will be 6.00. There is a 67.7% chance of this happening.

Tiers Tip

Bet Tip

If you are playing dozens or columns (covering roughly one-third of the table) you can use the Tiers bet to mix it up and still cover a similar amount of the wheel (in fact just under 1/3. Remember that there is a zero pocket).

Bet Variations

We have come across a few variations of this bet, particularly in land-based casinos. There’s a bet called “Tiers 5-8-10-11” which has extra chips placed as single number bets on 5, 8, 10, and 11.

You are still covering just under a third of the wheel, but powering up those numbers. We have also heard of a variant played in Italy called the “Gioco Ferrari” or Ferrari Bet with straight-up bets on 8, 11, 23 and 30. You are supercharging the middle of the Tiers Zone.

The Best Casino and Variant for Tiers Du Cylindre?

With most of these call bets, you’ll need a French Roulette variant or a Premium Roulette wheel with Call Bets (in the advanced mode in some cases). We’d recommend Grand Ivy. If you play this bet at a land-based casino, you just call it out and the croupier will place the Tiers for you.

Pros and Cons

  • A good, fast way of covering (just under) one third of the wheel.
  • Unlike Voisins, all the bets are split bets- each number pays out the same.
  • Not all games offer this Call Bet.
